Using Firespray® on ventilation ducts

Firespray® consists of slag wool, with hydraulic and inorganic binders. It is supplied in the form of light flakes. Firespray ® is a spray-on product. The spraying technique, also known as flocking, consists in applying Fibrexpan® fibres under pressure, using a special machine. The thickness of the sprayed layer will be defined according to the required fire resistance rating. The product is applied using a spraying machine. The spraying machine comprises a feed hopper, a carding device, a blowing device (fan, turbine or blower), a hose for conveying the mixture to be sprayed. The Firespray ® mixture is then applied with a spray gun and water. The product is carded in the machine, then fed to the spray gun by means of compressed air. Water-fed nozzles are placed around the hose outlet to wet the product before it is sprayed onto the substrate. Firespray® does not require prior application of a bonding agent. The coating will be finished with Projiso Fixo Dur® or Sidairless®

Techniques for implementing Firespray® for the fire protection of circular sheet metal horizontal and vertical ventilation ducts

Fire protection can be applied to horizontal and vertical circular sheet metal smoke extraction ducts with a diameter of between 0 and 1000 mm, and with a maximum section length of 1300 mm
The thickness of the sheet metal varies with duct diameter.

The spacing between the support systems must be no more than 1588 mm at the most.

Assembly involves ducts comprising sections with a maximum length of 1300 mm. These elements are connected to each other by means of circular galvanised steel flanges, fixed to the duct by means of clinching and self-drilling screws.
Galvanised steel collars are fitted at the junctions between sections, ensuring the assembly of the flanges to the pipe.
631 to 1000 mm: a half collar will be positioned at the lower half perimeter of the duct, supported on each side by M10 threaded rods.
0 to 630 mm: two half-collars will be fixed together and supported by an M10 threaded rod.

Firespray® fire protection coating is applied to the duct body in one or more layers, i.e. 56 mm in EI 60 min, and 80 mm in EI 120 min.

Protection of support systems for horizontal and vertical circular sheet metal ventilation ducts

For the fire protection of the support systems, the cross member is incorporated into the fire protection coating of the duct, while the threaded rods are covered with a mesh and then sprayed with a layer of Firespray® with the same thickness as that of the duct, or by means of a 30mm-thick rock wool shell followed by a mesh and a layer of Firespray® (shell + sprayed product of the same thickness as that used on the duct).

Techniques for implementing Firespray® for the fire protection of horizontal and vertical rectangular sheet metal ventilation ducts

Fire protection coatings can also be applied to horizontal and vertical circular sheet metal ventilation ducts with a section of between 0x0 to 1250x1000 mm, and with a maximum section length of 1500 mm
The thickness of the sheet metal varies with duct diameter

Assembly involves ducts comprising sections with a maximum length of 1500 mm. These elements are interconnected using galvanised steel profiles, which are welded on the duct and fixed together with M10 bolts.
The sealing between the different sections is ensured by a self-adhesive seal, as well as by frame collars positioned on the duct profiles.
Internal reinforcements consisting of steel stanchions, 17/21 mm (Ø int, Ø ext) positioned at mid-length of the sections (sketch 3) for ducts with height > 500mm.

For horizontal ducts (sketch 1, 2) with sections of - 0x0mm to 1250x1000 mm, the support system is as follows: the duct is supported by suspension cradles distributed at a maximum centre distance of 1200 mm. Consisting of U-shaped cross members and two M10 threaded rod hangers.

Firespray® fire protection coating is applied to the duct body in one or more layers, i.e. 56 mm in EI 60 min, and 74 mm in EI 120 min.
