Fire protection of structural floor trays: Fibrofeu®
Fibrofeu®, manufactured and marketed by Projiso, is a fibrous spray-on mixture used for passive fire protection of composite floors. Fibrofeu® consists of slag wool, with hydraulic and inorganic binders. It is supplied in the form of light flakes.
The thickness of the fire protection coating varies:
- between 13 and 31 mm on trapezoidal structural steel floor trays, with a thickness greater than or equal to 73 mm
- and between 23 and 39 mm on structural steel floor trays with a dovetail profile, with thickness greater than or equal to 80 mm.
The thickness of the sheet metal used for structural steel floor trays must be greater than or equal to 0.75 mm
The width of the bottom of the corrugation must be less than or equal to 187 mm and the height of the corrugation must be less than or equal to 87mm.
Application of Fibrofeu® for fire protection of structural floor trays starts with cleaning of the steel trays.
Fibrofeu® is a spray-on product. The spraying technique, also known as flocking, consists in applying Fibrofeu® fibres under pressure using special machines.
The sprayed thickness will be defined according to the desired fire resistance rating.
The machine comprises a feed hopper, a carding device, a blowing device (fan, turbine or blower), a hose for conveying the mixture to be sprayed. A spray gun and water.
The product is placed in the machine and then fed through a hose to a spray gun by means of compressed air. Water-fed nozzles are placed around the hose outlet to wet the product before it is sprayed onto the substrate.
